"The Peace of the World begins in Jerusalem."

 

Rev. Theodore Hessburgh, president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, spoke those words at the end of my first 16 Days in Israel Palestine in 2005.

In pursuit of that goal, I founded my website WeAreWideAwake.org three weeks after that first of seven trips to the Holy Land.

I have written three books and over a thousand articles seeking a just peace in the Middle East which can be read at WeAreWideAwake.org

I also began to dream of serving in the US House of Representatives shortly after my first trip to Israel and occupied Palestine and on 7 January 2012, established this site dedicated to that end.

I was a 'no party affiliation' candidate of conscience for US House of Representatives, I remain a fiscal conservative and social and spiritual progressive who holds these truths to be self-evident: That all [people] are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights...that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among [people] deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the RIGHT of the people to ALTER or to ABOLISH it. -The Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776

Whereas the well being of every resident in Florida is connected to the well being of every American and the well being of every American is connected to the well being of every human being and every form of life, I will work in writings to protect the environment and the nurturing of children, to bringing home the troops, securing Social Security and Medicare and upholding the spirit and intention of the Constitution of America that successfully separated and balanced governmental powers to safeguard the interests of majority rule and minority rights, of liberty and equality, and of the central and state governments.

Because I have been to both sides of The Wall in Israel Palestine 7 times since 2005, listening to and in support of nonviolent resisters of the military occupation of Palestine--which is viewed everywhere in the world-except America-as a US-Israeli collaboration, I will persist to tell the stories of people such as:

Jonathan Ben Artzi, [nephew of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who spent eighteen months in jail for refusing to serve in the IDF as a conscientious objector against the Israeli Occupation of Palestine] said: "Sometimes it takes a good friend to tell you when enough is enough. As they did with South Africa two decades ago, concerned citizens across the US can make a difference by encouraging Washington to get the message to Israel that this cannot continue. If Americans truly are our friends, they should shake us up and take away the keys, because right now we are driving drunk, and without this wake-up call, we will soon find ourselves in the ditch of an undemocratic, doomed state."
